Song of the Day: May 20, 2019 - "Pure Auto" by METZ

May 20, 2019 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

According to this new article in GQ, Keanu Reeves is a fan of METZ.
So REALLY, that’s all you need to really know, but I’ll give you some more info I SUPPOSE.

The band has a new album coming out July 12…a collection if you will… of “non-album singles, B-sides, and rarities dating back to 2009”.

They realized some of their early work was being sold for very high prices and wanted to make the music available for everyone one who would want it.

So this single “Pure Auto” was originally released as the B-side to the ‘Eraser’ 7” and they’ve never played it live, but you can imagine what that would look like, by watching this video below!

Song of the Day: May 19, 2019 - "Boujee Natives" by Snotty Nose Rez Kids

May 19, 2019 by Christine McAvoy in Song Of The Day

I’ve had Snotty Nose Rez Kids’ new album Trapline on repeat for the last little while since it came out this month.

Their latest video and single from the album, “Boujee Natives” is insanely catchy, and you should give it, and the rest of the album a listen - prepare for even more great things from these two, including a show in Vancouver on May 30th at Fortune Sound (I’ll be there!).

Song of the Day: May 17, 2019 - "There Is A Wall" by Skye Wallace

May 17, 2019 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

We’re getting closer and closer to the release of the brand new self-titled album from Skye Wallace, and she’s treated us with another brand new song from the album.

Skye says: “‘There Is A Wall’ is a song of empowerment and an anthem lamenting the glass ceiling and the frustration of women trying to strive toward greatness throughout history. This is a song for all the untold stories, the under-appreciated, and the unseen.”

If what we’ve heard so far is any indication, we are in for one hell of an album on June 7th.

Song of the Day: May 16, 2019 - "Shoreline" by Leisure Club

May 16, 2019 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

If you need some chill vibez today, then Leisure Club has you covered with their brand new song, “Shoreline”.

The band say the song was “born in the depths of hedonism. The song represents a melancholic yearning for more meaningful connections in a fast, substance fuelled environment. Waiting on the shoreline is waiting to dive into an ocean of opportunity and self realization.”

Check it below to put it in your ears!

We’re so close to the release date of…well… Release - the new album by Rich Aucoin.

He’s given us so many singles and some amazing videos for them, that I can’t wait for the whole thing to be out in the world (seriously, go pre-save it on Spotify).
The latest single is “The Other” and the video was released today. It’s a fun sci-fi adventure from my favourite cinephile.

Check it out below, and the album when it’s out on May 17th!

Song of the Day: May 7, 2019 - "Top of the Top" by Language Arts

May 07, 2019 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Language Arts is back with a new album this fall called Lemon/Lime, but teasing us now with a brand new song, “Top Of The Top”

The intense song is deeply personal, with Language Arts saying the video “really captures how I feel physically,” while still experiencing post-concussion symptoms after being hit by a drunk driver years ago. “It's a window into how I experience my brain injury. Post-concussion syndrome can really diminish my quality of life. Writing this song helped me get these unbearable feelings out of my system and into an expression".

Have a listen on Soundcloud below, or check out the video above.

Song of the Day: May 5, 2019 - "Raven" by Jenn Grant

May 05, 2019 by Kirk Hamilton in Song Of The Day

Just last week, Jenn Grant gave us a tease of her upcoming album Love, Inevitable, due out at the end of the month.

“Raven” is a power-pop gem, and Grant says the song “came from a place of trying to find my own power when I was crowded with self-doubt. For me, it’s about taking a step into the unknown and learning to trust yourself. It’s about making a choice to let go of the idea that you needed something or someone, and finally stepping into your freedom.”

Check the video (directed by her husband Daniel Ledwell) below, and keep May 25th clear, cos she’ll be doing a show at Fortune!
